Enjoying wine in baroque scenery, pleasure in the open air in one of Würzburg's largest and most beautiful gardens. Since 1974 it has been one of the classic wine festivals in the city: "The Hofgarten Wine Festival".
And all this in the immediate vicinity of the city centre of Würzburg. In the picturesque Hofgarten of the Residenz the "Staatliche Hofkeller" invites you to a special wine experience from July 01 to July 10 2022. In the shade of the large trees and at the edge of the large fountain, you can relax on the benches and tables as well as under the many sunshades and at the bar tables. This wine festival offers a very special flair, enchanted with its mixture of wine enjoyment and baroque surroundings.
The Hofgarten Wine Festival is known far beyond the borders of Würzburg and has enjoyed increasing popularity for years. It is open every day from 4 p.m. to midnight (closing time for drinks is 11:30 p.m.). This makes it one of Würzburg's longest open wine festivals. However, it is recommended not to go to the Residenzgarten much later than 18 o'clock.
Unless you don't attach importance to a seat. On the one hand, they are limited, on the other hand, of course, they are in great demand. For example, many locals use the Hofgarten wine festival to end the day with a delicious glass of wine and a snack with their colleagues or friends. But also many tourists visit the festival purposefully, or notice during the visit of the adjoining world cultural heritage Residenz, which pleasure is offered not only for the eyes, but also for the palate.
At the Hofgarten Wine Festival 2022, wines from Franconia will of course be presented as presents, or to be more precise, wines from the state court cellar. They are available in a glass (with deposit) or in a bottle. Those who are not only thirsty but also hungry can buy various smaller dishes. In addition, there is live music every day, which of course plays so discreetly that the guests can talk undisturbed. Because what could be more beautiful at a wine festival than to chat about God and the world with a good drop of wine?
If you haven't had enough of wine enjoyment in the open air in the shade of the large trees of the Residenz Park in terms of wine enjoyment in a special ambience, then there's a special place in the immediate vicinity for you - preferably the next day: A wine tasting in the spacious vaulted cellars below the World Cultural Heritage Würzburg Residence.
Deep inside, the extensive and labyrinthine cellar corridors of the former "Fürstbischöflichen Hofkeller" extend. In this unique setting, the state-owned Hofkeller - one of the largest wineries in Germany - offers guided cellar tours as well as wine tasting by candlelight. An extraordinary experience that can crown any visit to Würzburg.
Even long after the mild summer evenings have passed, wine can still be sipped. Even if the outdoor wine festivals are over, the night of the open wine cellars in November continues underground. In addition to the Weingut am Stein, the Juliusspital, the Staatliche Hofkeller and the Weingut Bürgerspital also open their cellars. Surrounded by large, heavy wooden barrels, visitors experience a unique ambience with atmospheric lighting. Exquisite wines and unique music are not neglected here.
